Club Solana is the after school version of Camp Solana.
It is also facilitated by Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Caitlin (Anderson) Happel.
It's just like Camp Solana, however instead of being a one week (5 day) session during the summer, it is weekly during the school year.
Currently, Club Solana is located at The Discovery School and is offered in semester format. From August-December and from January-May.
Club Solana is also offered as an offering of "Turtle Club: KG Kickstart" at Atlantic Beach Country Club for members and guests of members.
Club Solana is also hands-on, multi-sensory based program designed to build the necessary foundation children need to succeed in Kindergarten. Many skills are often looked over- such as hand strength, dexterity, use of hands together (bilateral coordination), postural control, upper body strength, visual motor skills, overall coordination, and letter identification and recognition. All of these skills are imperative to success in PreK, KG ,and 1st grade as cutting, coloring, pre-writing, and writing skills all required a strong foundation.
The goal of Club Solana is to provide your child with a sensory rich environment and developmentally appropriate pre-writing and handwriting instruction. Research indicates that skilled handwriting improves overall academic performance. The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum will be used to teach basic principles.
Activities and lessons are designed to target fine motor, visual motor, gross motor, bilateral coordination, and sensorimotor skills through movement, music, crafts, play, and more!
Ms. Caitlin loves targeting the underlying skills needed for handwriting and school readiness while having fun and loves seeing the big smiles from kids when they realize how far they have come.
